Beware – Conference Hotel Registration Scam

Beware of Hotel Booking Calls

Today I got a call from the Corinthia Hotel in Budapest. That’s not true, but that is what the person on the phone claimed, anyway. They wanted to know if I had already booked a hotel room for the conference. I said that it has all been taken care of, but they insisted, told me that there were only 5 rooms available and that prices were going up. They could book the room on my behalf there and then and get it all sorted. They knew my name, that I was a speaker, and the dates of the conference.

This is a scam. Don’t fall for it!

It is not the first time this has happened. Recently, after registering for this year’s Autodesk University in December I also got a similar call. On that occasion I hadn’t booked the hotel through the registration site. I fell for it, and it was a pain, and nerve racking, cancelling it. Luckily it all got sorted, but worth being aware of this, since it is apparently something that’s doing the rounds.

You can book your hotel room through the RTC online registration, and if you have any doubts, please feel free to check with us.

On a more positive note, I am back from holidays. A long stretch — three weeks. My girlfriend summed them up as the best ever. We did more things with the kids this time around than any time before it, from roller coasters and kart racing – I am getting good at it – to beach swims and mountain walks. If a day didn’t have an activity planned, we would make one up and go for it. We had friends and their kids visiting from abroad, had amazing food with the family, went out a couple nights, and even managed a few quiet late evenings, too.

And in spite of everything going on around us, there was plenty of time to make plans and set goals. I come back energized to learn new things, tackle new challenges, and make the most out of every day. I hope you had as good a time in your holidays.

It is Monday 31st of August, a bank holiday here in the UK. Perfect time to empty all suitcases, tidy up the house, catch up on some emails, and register for RTC Europe 2015. I look forward to seeing you there soon.
