LEGO: The Architect’s Fountain of Youth
My older son is at the age where he is starting to play with DUPLO blocks. I am spending a lot of time in his room on the weekends putting up structures with him and it’s gotten me thinking about LEGO a lot lately.
I left “Design” quite some time ago to focus on BIM as a specialty but I still find it really soothing to start putting space together free-form in the way the Lego & Duplo systems allow.
The other day, I found the movie “Beyond The Brick: A LEGO Brickumentary”
It was fantastic to learn more about just how large the adult LEGO community is. Among the many stories in the film, is the origin of the LEGO Architecture Series.
This was actually an idea from an adult user, an architect who had been on the wrong end of the financial crisis in 2008.
There’s an analogy to RTC in this I think. If you follow your passion, maybe the tools become toys and the work becomes play and the fun can last a lifetime.
