RTC Events Week Europe – Destination Ljubljana, Slovenia

RTC Events Week Europe – Destination Ljubljana, Slovenia

This year RTC Events Management has chosen Ljubljana, Slovenia as the destination for the RTC Europe Events Week. Kicking off is BCS on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th October and BILT Thursday 11th through to Saturday 13th October.

You may wonder why Ljubljana? How do I get there? Or you may wonder how you pronounce Ljubljana (as I struggle through it). So below are the answers to  some questions you may have…

Why destination  Ljubljana?

Slovenia’s capital and largest city, it is often likened to be a mini Prague and is one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable cities.  With beautiful buildings and accoutrements, car traffic restricted and the heart of the city free for pedestrians and cyclists, and with the café’s set up along the emerald green Ljubljanica River.  Who wouldn’t want to be there for RTC Events Week Europe this October?

Okay, sounds lovely, but how do I get to Ljubljana?

By Air: Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (code LJU), has flights to and from numerous European destinations. Among the companies that fly from there are Adria Airways, Air France, Air Serbia, easyJet, Finnair, Montenegro Airlines, Wizz Air and Turkish Airlines.

By Rail: There is also Rail via Pan European Transport Corridors (map below) visit www.raileurope.com to book your train journey.

By Road is another option.

Outside of RTC Events Week Europe (which will be my highlight – of course), what else is there to do/see in Ljubljana?

Ljubljana’s top experiences include The Ljubljana Castle, crowning the city 375 metres high up on the hill over looking the old town, it’s free to ramble around the castle grounds.

Beautiful cocktail bars in the old town, along the river. Sourcing only Slovenian made products, try Slovenska Hiša as recommended by the Lonely Planet.

Prešernov Trg central square and centrepeice of Ljubljana’s wonderful buildings.  It is where new meets old as it sits between Old Town and the New Center District.

How do I pronounce Ljubljana?

I am sure many of you (especially those of you in Europe) know how to pronounce Ljubljana, unlike myself. So while I continue to stumble over it, let this be a reminder to myself, and a help for anyone else falling over it too…

Try this out loud – Loob-lee-anna…(and repeat if necessary) …  Et Voila, now you are one step closer to speaking Slovenian (and coincidentally French)!!

What hotel accommodation will RTC have on hold for BCS and BILT Europe Attendees ?

When we go live with registration you will also be able to book your Hotel, at our special guest rate. The Grand Union Hotel is host to the BCS event and BILT ‘s Gala Dinner; and is where we have the majority of hotel room nights on hold. The Art Nouveau styled hotel is in the heart of the city centre and overlooks the Prešernov Trg central square. We will also have guest rooms available at the Lev Hotel which is slightly closer to the BILT Conference Centre.

Meantime don’t forget to Save the Dates 9th – 13th October in your calendar!

Nasvidenje (goodbye) or Slovo (also goodbye in Slovenian- and a much easier one for me)!
