The Ljubljana Retrospect

Friends,

What a good time we had during BILT Europe in the magical city of Ljubljana! For me, it was a deeply moving experiences, not just because it was my first year as Regional Chairman, but because you all devoted yourself fully to sharing your extraordinary ideas with a burning passion and outmost respect for each other’s opinions.

Our goal with this year’s program was to drive a gigantic wrecking ball through the silos that barricades and impedes our ability to collaborate across disciplines and decision levels – dare I say that the dust has still not settled?

The classes selected for the program was a statement to the evolutionary step our community has taken since its birth as RTC Europe, and feeling your reactions to the choices that we made, has boosted our belief that we are indeed on the right track. No other gathering of talent in the built environment, features such diversity and openness as BILT Europe. To see you collaborate and inspire each other brings me confidence that there is still hope for us leaving a better footprint on this planet. Our Executive Chairman, Wesley Benn, addressed this on the final day, when he announced the introduction of DBEI, the Digital Built Environment Institute, the not-for-profit under which we unite moving forward.

So, what was achieved over the course of three days, where we had more than 90 seventy-five minute classes? Did we do more than simply consume thousands of espressos and croissants? Did we make new friends? Did we reconnect with old? Did we open our minds to new ways of working? Did we give feedback to service, tool and platform provides?

Personally, I can answer positively to all of the above, and given my reflections in the opening paragraph so did you too. Some of you even went above and beyond to introduce a whole new generation to the BILT family, by teaching, inspiring and collaborating with the students attending the very first BILT Academy Summit that took place the day before BILT.

A picture says more than thousand words, so why not see if you can find yourself – and your friends in our Gallery.

Thank you to all of you who attended, stay tuned, our  call for abstracts open in december! – See you in Edinburgh!

All the best,

Marcus
